About
I am currently a PhD student at The Ohio State University and affiliated with The Institute for Population Research. I am working on several projects funded through both the Department of Sociology and the School of Public Health at Ohio State as well as by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Ohio Policy Evaluation Network (OPEN). I have worked as a co-investigator on several qualitative projects and have been involved with Institutional Review Board (IRB) proposals, constructing interview guides, in-depth interviewing, transcription, and data analysis. I am the Research Coordinator on a project examining obstetrical complications and crisis pregnancy centers where I collaborate with colleagues in the School of Public Health and College of Medicine at OSU and the College of Medicine at University of Cincinnati. OPEN is a collaborative research network across universities and community partners in Ohio where I work specifically on a community-based participatory research project on reproductive health care access and experiences in rural Appalachia. Interdisciplinary work is something I am interested in and engaged with, and I have gained skills communicating with partners and colleagues across disciplinary boundaries.

Teaching
Teaching the next generation of students and learners is something I value and strive to improve on.
I have experience teaching the recitation sections of Undergraduate Sociological Research Methods, where I lead students through how to formulate an independent research proposal. I taught two sections with approximately fifty students across both. This was a very rewarding experience, because I got to help students see the power of research and help them foster their own interests and passions. I have also worked as an undergraduate tutor for Sociological Statistics.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice in Teaching is paramount for a positive learning experience and for all students (and instructors) to grow.
I am working towards an Inclusive Teaching certificate from the Drake Institute of Teaching and Learning. Thus far, I have attended workshops on Trauma-Informed Teaching and Generative Conversations focused on Calling-In rather than Calling-Out in the classroom. Through these workshops and instruction, I hope to be more confident in implementing the principles of DEIJ and creating a safe but challenging learning space for my students.
