Additional Research Projects
Reproduction, Gender, Medicine
Obstetric Violence. I carried out my own in-depth interview study with women who had recently given birth and am examining experiences of obstetric violence to better understand how these experiences are racialized and gendered and shaped by institutional norms and structures. This project was funded by a Small Grants Fund through the Department of Sociology at Ohio State.
Reproductive and Structural Violence. I worked on a large-scale community-based participatory research project consisting of nearly sixty interviews conducted with residents of four counties in the Ohio region of rural Appalachia about reproductive health care access and experiences. I am leading a paper out of this data collection on reproductive violence amongst women in this region, paying close attention to the linkages between structural, symbolic, and interpersonal violence in their lives and its impacts on their reproductive health care and access. I am a part of other papers examining hysterectomies amongst our sample through a reproductive justice lens and abortion attitudes, access, and misinformation. This project is funded through the Ohio Policy Evaluation Network.
